Next Time Pull the Plug By Brandon Ning

To all the nurses,

To all the doctors,

To all the specialists,

To all the hospitals,

To all the health care providers,

To America

And its capitalism.

Kindly exist somewhere else.

If it weren’t for you, my finalized bill wouldn’t cost $1.5 million

And if my mother’s insurance providers weren’t able to pay 99%

We would’ve been out of a home

Our home that we have been living in for more than 50 years

Our home that we spent decades sharing memories

Our home that started our family’s beginning

A loss far too great to bear

Health care is far too expensive in America,

Especially in Chicago.

That’s why when I came out of the hospital with a barely working body,

I didn’t seek my weekly physical therapy

Because it was too expensive.

I didn’t seek therapy for my severe mental trauma

Cause it was too expensive.

Hell I couldn’t even finish this letter

Bc it’s too expensive to think about.
